1. Project Overview
Universal Beijing Resort is a large-scale immersive cultural-tourism complex in Asia, integrating theme park, open-air commercial street, F&B outlets and two distinctive resort hotels. The project features highly diverse design aesthetics: CityWalk delivers vibrant day-and-night commercial atmosphere; Universal Studios Grand Hotel reproduces the retro glamour of Hollywood golden age; NUO Resort Hotel draws inspiration from traditional Chinese imperial gardens and presents oriental elegance. With wide-ranging scenarios including outdoor public street, retail store, cinema, theme park public area and two hotels of totally different styles, the project sets high requirements on theme adaptation, weather resistance and multi-style compatibility of light fixtures. Diamond Life undertook customized lighting delivery across multiple zones. Our scope covers CityWalk commercial zones, Peet’s Coffee retail space, Universal Cinema, outdoor theme-park street lamps, grand decorative chandelier at park entrance, as well as public-area and guest-room lighting for Universal Studios Grand Hotel and NUO Resort Hotel, delivering one-stop multi- scene lighting for cultural resort.
2. Lighting Design Concept
The biggest challenge of this project lies in sharp style differences among various zones. Lighting needs to create joyful vibe for theme park, energetic night-time atmosphere for commercial street, meanwhile match retro Hollywood style and tranquil Chinese garden aesthetics for two hotels respectively. Instead of applying unified template, we adopted zone-tailored strategy. CityWalk lighting builds lively night-time commercial ambiance for day-time business and night sightseeing. Outdoor park street lamps balance traffic safety and thematic decorative features for heavy-visitor-flow environment. Lighting for Peet’s Coffee and Universal Cinema focuses on retail and viewing experience. Universal Studios Grand Hotel lighting echoes vintage Hollywood glamour, while NUO Resort Hotel uses soft subtle light to interpret quiet oriental garden aesthetics, forming comfortable atmosphere transition between noisy theme park and peaceful hotel retreat.
3. Custom Fixture Features & Spatial Presentation
All light fixtures are custom-developed and classified into three series: outdoor cultural-tourism fixtures, commercial retail fixtures and hotel interior fixtures. For CityWalk, bespoke light fixtures for theme commercial street unify the overall night-time tone of pedestrian street. Custom-made fittings for Peet’s Coffee match its minimalist American retail identity, balancing brand character and commercial ambiance. Lighting inside Universal Cinema strengthens immersive movie-going atmosphere. Within theme park zones, custom street lamps combine functional road illumination with thematic decoration for long-term heavy-use outdoor conditions. The large decorative chandelier for theme park entrance acts as iconic visual installation, enhancing ritual experience for incoming visitors.
Lighting solutions for two hotels are clearly differentiated. Fixtures in Universal Studios Grand Hotel incorporate Spanish Revival and Hollywood vintage details to restore golden-age magnificence. Light fittings for NUO Resort Hotel adopt refined Chinese garden elements with restrained outlines, fitting the tranquil courtyard-style space. This set of integrated lighting for theme park and resort hotel unifies engineering safety and durability standards despite huge aesthetic differences across zones.
